2025 - Thanksgiving Gobbler Tournament
🏆🦃 4th Annual Thanksgiving Gobbler Softball Tournament 🏆🦃

The USBA Fall Classic, held on August 24 at Legacy Park in Markham, brought together six teams for a full day of competitive softball. The tournament began with a round robin that featured plenty of high-scoring action, close finishes, and standout performances before the top four teams advanced to the playoff round.
The Royals proved to be the class of the field in the round robin, finishing a perfect 3–0. They opened with an 18–14 slugfest win over the White Sox, followed it up with a dominant 19–4 victory over the Rockies, and wrapped up pool play with a strong 14–8 win against the Giants. With consistent offense and steady defense, the Royals earned the top seed heading into the playoffs.
The Yankees put together a 2–1 record, showing resilience after a tough 10–8 loss to the Giants in their opener. They bounced back with a hard-fought 13–11 win over the A’s and edged the Rockies 11–10 in another nail-biter, proving they could grind out close games.
The White Sox also finished 2–1, battling in three tight games. After dropping their opener to the Royals, they rebounded with an 11–9 win over the Giants and a dramatic 12–11 victory against the A’s. Their ability to close out games in pressure situations made them one of the most dangerous teams heading into the playoffs.
The Giants and A’s both went 1–2. The Giants started strong with a win over the Yankees but couldn’t sustain their momentum, falling to both the White Sox and Royals. The A’s opened in style with a huge 21–10 victory over the Rockies, but despite their offensive firepower, they dropped back-to-back heartbreakers to the Yankees and White Sox.
The Rockies, despite showing flashes of fight, finished winless at 0–3. They were blown out by the Royals but lost close ones to both the A’s and Yankees, coming up just short in their bid to grab a win.
The top four — Royals, Yankees, White Sox, and A’s — advanced to the playoff round.
The semifinal matchups were fittingly intense. On the North field, the Royals and A’s traded big innings in a slugfest that went down to the wire. The Royals narrowly escaped with a 15–14 victory, keeping their unbeaten run alive. Over on the South field, the White Sox and Yankees delivered another back-and-forth classic, with the White Sox holding on for a 19–17 win to book their place in the finals.
That set up a showdown between the undefeated Royals and the surging White Sox for the championship. In the final, the White Sox brought their best offensive performance of the day, exploding for 21 runs in a high-scoring battle. Despite the Royals’ efforts to rally, the White Sox outpaced them and secured a 21–16 victory. With the win, the White Sox were crowned USBA Fall Classic champions, capping off a thrilling day of softball at Legacy Park.
USBA Softball League All-Star Game Recap: Red Team Edges Blue Team in Thrilling 11-10 Finish
Yesterday’s USBA Softball League All-Star game delivered an exciting matchup between the Red Team, featuring players from OAK, SD, and TOR, and the Blue Team, composed of stars from CHS, SF, and COL. In a high-scoring, back-and-forth battle, the Red Team pulled ahead late to secure an 11-10 victory.
Early Offensive Explosion for Red
The Red Team jumped out to an early lead in the first inning, sparked by a powerful offensive sequence. Variava singled to start, followed by hits from Pinlac and Alcantara that loaded the bases. Cortez then delivered a massive triple, clearing the bases and giving the Red Team a 3-0 lead. Thatcher added a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 4-0 before Diaz closed the inning with a fly out.
The Blue Team struggled to get anything going early but showed resilience in the second inning. After a series of walks and singles, the Blue Team scored three runs, cutting the deficit to 6-5 thanks to aggressive baserunning and timely hitting.
Back and Forth Battle Through Middle Innings
Both teams exchanged runs through the middle innings. Gonzalez and Warrel ignited the Red offense with singles leading to runs, while the Blue Team responded with clutch hitting from Alonquina, who blasted a crucial triple to tie the game at 6-6 in the third inning.
The Red Team pushed ahead again in the fourth inning with a string of singles culminating in runs by Warrel and Variava. Cortez and Maocco helped extend the lead to 9-6 by the end of the fifth.
Nail-Biting Final Innings
The Blue Team mounted a furious comeback in the sixth inning, highlighted by an electrifying inside-the-park home run by Y. Khan that brought them within one run at 11-10. Despite the pressure, the Red Team’s defense held firm in the final inning, securing the win.
Rishi Shuts the Door and Shines at the Plate
Coming in during the late innings, Red Team pitcher Rishi proved to be the difference maker. His dominant pitching shut down the Blue Team’s rally attempts, striking out batters and making key defensive plays under pressure. Not just a pitcher, Rishi also contributed offensively, going 2-for-3 at the plate to help maintain the lead.
For his all-around outstanding performance on the mound and at the plate, Rishi was named the All-Star MVP.

The North field saw a tightly contested round robin between The A's, Free Agents, Royals, and White Sox. The day opened with a slugfest as the Free Agents edged out The A’s 12–10. The Royals then started their campaign with a strong 15–8 win over the White Sox. In a thrilling 12:30 PM showdown, the Royals stayed hot, narrowly outlasting The A’s 18–16. The afternoon continued with an offensive showcase, including a 16–16 draw between Free Agents and White Sox. The A's ran out of gas late in the day, falling 16–1 to the surging White Sox. The final matchup between the Royals and Free Agents ended in a unusual 16–16 stalemate, wrapping up a wild and balanced day on the North diamond.
Over on the South field, fans were treated to several high-scoring affairs and a few surprises. The morning opened with a 6–6 tie between the Rockies and Jays, setting a tone of parity. The Padres then pulled out a tight 10–9 win over the Giants, before cruising past the Rockies 16–9 in their second game. The Giants bounced back in the afternoon, overpowering the Jays 11–2 and then dominating the Rockies 16–1 in a statement win. The day closed with a low-scoring 4–4 draw between the Padres and Jays, sealing a mixed bag of results that left most teams within striking distance going into the playoffs.
The playoff rounds brought drama, upsets, and clutch performances as teams battled for a spot in the finals.
Quarterfinals Recap:
The underdog Jays, who had gone winless in the round robin, shocked the heavily favored Giants with a dominant 9–1 victory. Their bats came alive at just the right time, and strong defense kept the Giants off balance throughout. On the other side of the bracket, the Free Agents put together their most complete performance of the tournament, exploding for a 17–5 win over the White Sox. From the first pitch, the Free Agents were in control, overwhelming White Sox pitching with a relentless offensive attack.
Semifinals Recap:
Riding high off their quarterfinal upset, the Jays nearly pulled off another stunner against the top-seeded Royals. The Jays held the lead deep into the game, but the Royals showed their championship pedigree. A few timely hits in the late innings swung the momentum, and the Royals ultimately held on for a tight 11–9 win to book their spot in the final.
In the other semifinal, the Free Agents continued their offensive surge with a statement 20–10 victory over the Padres. The game was close early, but the Free Agents broke it open with a massive middle-inning rally. The Padres couldn’t keep up, and the Free Agents advanced to the final looking like the hottest team in the tournament.
Finals: Free Agents vs Royals
The championship game between the Free Agents and Royals lived up to the hype, delivering a thrilling, back-and-forth battle that came down to the final pitch.
Both teams traded blows throughout the game in a tightly contested affair, with neither side willing to give an inch. The Free Agents, riding the momentum of two high-powered playoff wins, held a narrow lead going into the 6th. But the Royals, as they had done all tournament, responded under pressure—scratching across the tying run to make it a deadlock heading into the final inning.
In the top of the 7th, the Free Agents managed to squeeze across a crucial go-ahead run, reclaiming the lead at 10–9. It was now all up to their defense. The bottom half of the inning delivered the moment of the tournament. With a runner on first, a Royals batter launched a towering drive to deep left field—a shot that looked destined to be a walk-off home run. But the Free Agents’ left fielder had other plans. In a jaw-dropping display of athleticism and determination, he sprinted to the fence, perfectly timed his leap, and soared above the wall to rob a championship-winning home run. The crowd erupted as he came down with the ball—a highlight-reel catch that will be remembered for years.
Still with life, the Royals put two runners on with two outs. Their final batter gave it one last push, sending a deep fly to right field. But the ball hung just long enough for the right fielder to settle under it at the warning track and squeeze the final out.
Final score: Free Agents 10, Royals 9.
